Camellia japonica 'Black Lace' (10L)
The sun rises in the east and sets in the west, all of us gardeners know that one right? Well have you heard that Camellia should be planted to avoid the rising sun?
They flower in the spring, which means there's usually some kind of frost or dew lingering around in the mornings. Frosty flowers and warm morning sun is a destructive combination for their blooms, unless of course you like browning edges, then by all means plant away. Give them a spot sheltered from harsh winds at the very least.
Even though they can sometimes be lumped in with Rhododendrons, you don't really need give them extra any additional ericaceous feed. Just the usual well drained neutral to slightly acidic compost will do, trying to avoid build up around the base and watering well after you've first planted them.
