Magnolia 'Stellata'
Native to Japan, these slow-growing shrubs can reach a spread of 4.6m at maturity, but don't worry, this won't happen unless you plant it with plenty of space and perfect conditions. Their compact nature actually makes them perfect for small gardens and tubs.
These bushes/trees will produce blooms in early spring before any leaves form, after that, you'll have a nice green shrub until the autumn.
They'll do the best in soils that lean on the acidic side of things and will love it if you give them a mulch in the spring with manure or leaf mould. Plant in a sheltered sunny spot.
